Tualatin is a city located primarily in Washington County with a small portion of the city is also in neighboring Clackamas County. It is a southwestern suburb in the Portland Metro Area, located 10 miles south of Portland. Tualatin is a rapidly growing city with approximately 26,000 people.
In the 1850s, the settlement was first called Galbreath after its founder Samuel Galbreath. In 1853, Galbreath built the first bridge over the Tualatin River, and the town became known as Bridgeport. In 1880s, John Sweek platted a town around the new railroad depot. The city was incorporated in 1913 and the name was changed to Tualatin in 1915.
Parks, an art walk, heritage trees, planning for growth and a crawfish festival are all hallmarks of Tualatin. The city has more than 200 acres of parks, green spaces and greenways. Tualatin Commons, located in the center of downtown, is a 19 acre park that includes a pedestrian promenade around a three acre lake, public plazas, and an interactive fountain. In the summer, the Concerts on the Commons are held here. Community Park is the city’s largest park, and is located along the Tualatin River. Recreation opportunities at Community Park include an award winning skate park for skateboarders and inline skaters, a senior center, a community center, and youth activities and recreational services.
